2008
Celestina Pinot Grigio
2007
The 2007 vintage was one of the driest years on record for
Santa Barbara County. An extremely windy spring and cool summer
followed the dry winter. The early season vagaries of weather
were dramatic and unprecedented. A late August and early September
heat spike was followed by cooler fall temperatures, allowing
for near perfect fruit and harvest conditions in late October.

2005
The 2005 vintage marked the end of a 3-year drought in California.
There were visibly dramatic consequences in the vineyards
that resulted from the adequate and plentiful rainfall in
the early part and spring of 2005. The end of drought helped
to improve vine health by removing accumulated salts in the
sub soils and allowed vines to grow normally.
An early flowering in mid May was followed by a long cool
summer that resulted in extended hang time across the growing
regions. The result of the cool weather was a vintage marked
by red fruit character; and higher acidity than the previous
several vintages. (Especially as contrasted with the darker
fruited, dry and warm 2004 vintage.)

2004
The 2004 vintage was the third year of drought on the Central
Coast marked by near perfect summer growing conditions that
were followed in September by extremely warm conditions. The
change in weather was dramatic and unprecedented but at the
same time created the opportunity for complete ripeness throughout
the vineyard. Timely irrigation and vineyard management was
a key to this vintage. Ample fruit maturity was a hallmark
of the vintage and resulted in opulent, lush wines.

2003
The 2003 vintage marked the second year of drought on the
Central Coast. Depleted soils had a marked impact on vine
vigor with many vines unable to fill the trellis. The result
was smaller clusters and berries than the 2002 vintage and
a higher level of concentration.

2002
2002 was arguably one of the best but least heralded recent
vintages because of slightly larger crop size than normal.
However, 2002 produced excellent wines as the result of near
perfect weather and the preceding dry winter/spring.
Good weather at bloom time coupled with a cool summer created
expectations for a very late harvest. However, as if prescribed,
two perfectly timed and spaced heat spikes of short duration
in early and late August dramatically improved wine quality
by advancing ripeness. The warmer August was followed by a
very long and cool fall. The slower pace of flavor development
produced a longer harvest as vintners waited for seed and
grape skin tannin to mature. Because of weather conditions
that seemed to cooperate in producing ripe wines with balanced
character, this was another excellent vintage following the
more heralded 2001.
